5000 euros for residence permit: The Latvian parliament has adopted amendments to the law on immigration.
On Thursday, the Latvian Saeima, after lengthy discussions, adopted in the final reading amendments to the Immigration Act, according to which a part of foreigners will have to pay 5,000 euros for re-granting a temporary residence permit.
The fee of 5,000 euros for the provision of residence permits will apply only to those citizens of foreign countries who will apply after the amendments to the law come into force. Persons who have already obtained a residence permit are exempted from paying a fee, they also do not need to pay 5,000 euros for the first extension of a residence permit (if the residence permit is obtained on the basis of the purchase of real estate or on the basis of a deposit to the bank). If the residence permit is renewed, however, they will have to pay a fee. In the event that a foreigner requests a renewal of residence permits on the basis of contributions to capital companies and the purchase of government securities, there is no need to pay a fee.
Around the amendments there was a heated discussion, reports Delfi.lv. "The question is political consequences and justice: we say to people:" Welcome to Latvia! ", And the next moment -" Get out! "This is unfair," Igor Pimenov, a deputy from Concord, said during the debate. "The state has the right to introduce new duties. (..) If fees for issuing passports have been increased, what are the grounds for not introducing new fees for extending residence permits?" - said the deputy Janis Dombrava ("Unity").
The amendments also suggest that foreigners will be entitled to a residence permit if they purchase two real estate objects worth 250,000 euros outside of Riga and the Riga region. For this purpose, a foreign citizen must buy no more than two real estate objects outside Riga, Jurmala, Adazi, Babite, Baldon, Carnikava, Garkaln, Ikshkilsky, Kekava, Marupe, Olain, Ropazh, Salaspils, Saulkrast and Stopinsky. The cadastral value of the property at the time of purchase must be at least 80 thousand euros (40 thousand euros of each object). Until now, the law assumed that the residence permit can be obtained with the purchase of only one facility with a value of at least 250,000 euros.
